HULU TERENGGANU, March 29 — Universiti Malaysia Terengganu’s (UMT) mobile laboratory is the first mobile research lab in Malaysia to be equipped with various research facilities.

UMT vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar said the laboratory known as ‘Siti Maya’ operates at Tasik Kenyir and is worth about RM500,000.

“Siti Maya is not only a research boathouse but now a landmark and symbol of UMT’s research, in Tasik Kenyir and Siti Maya is also the fastest boathouse in Malaysia with a maximum speed of 10 knots.

“The mobile lab which can accommodate 21 passengers and measures 14 metres long and 4.8 meters wide is equipped with two research rooms, two generator rooms, an open laboratory space, pilothouse room and two toilets,” he said when speaking to reporters after the mobile lab and Special Interest Group Tasik Kenyir Geopark Exhibition was launched by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Razif said he hoped the laboratory would be able to assist the state government in drawing up a comprehensive development plan in the vicinity of Tasik Kenyir. — Bernama
