Malaysia Income Tax: Are income from oversea taxable?

Some or you may received some income from oversea from various sources. The big question often asked is, are these income receive in Malaysia from oversea taxable?

According to an article in theStar, income received in Malaysia from oversea is exempt from income tax as long as they are not related to your employment in Malaysia. Here is the full statement:

Question: Will all my income be taxed in Malaysia, even those that I earned overseas?

Answer: All income accrued in or derived from Malaysia will be subject to Malaysian income tax. Income which you have received in Malaysia from outside Malaysia is exempted from Malaysian income tax if it is not income in connection with your employment in Malaysia.
