Cook with Google Home Mini in Malaysia

I brought back a Google Home Mini provided to me free when I returned from the recent Google Top Contributor Summit in Mountain View. Although it hasn't been launched in Malaysia, fortunately some services were still available in Malaysia.

For one you can set up Google Home Mini (functions same as Google Home) in the kitchen to find recipe or to set timer even if Google Home is not supported in Malaysia (secret: received some help from Google Home Help Forum).

You can ask Google Home Mini "Hey Google, find me a recipe" or "OK Google, find me a cookie recipe". I was given the Youtube video below to watch which I found very instructive:

00:02

00:25
feature on the Google home that allows
00:27
you to find recipes and make by
00:30
step-by-step instructions make sure you
00:32
check the link below to see if your
00:33
country is supported with the cookie
00:35
feature on the Google home the first
00:38
thing that you need to do is to find a
00:39
recipe that you want to use you can do
00:41
this in two ways one by asking Google to
00:44
find a recipe or two by searching on
00:46
your phone first let's show you how to
00:48
do that with the Google home hey Google
00:50
find me a cookies recipe I can help you
00:54
make that would you like me to find you
00:56
a recipe or would you like to choose
00:58
your own choose my own to choose your
01:02
own use Google search to find a recipe
01:05
on your phone and have to send a Google
01:07
home button below it so I could have
01:10
continued with that recipe but if I want
01:12
to be more specific I just need to go
01:14
into my phone and go into Google search
01:16
to find that recipe here on my Android
01:18
phone
01:19
I'm going to use Google Chrome to go to
01:21
Google search on an iPhone you could use
01:23
Safari or Google Chrome as well once I'm
01:26
in Google search I'm going to make sure
01:28
that I am signed into the same email
01:30
that I use on the Google home and you
01:32
can do that by clicking sign in on the
01:34
top right hand corner or clicking the
01:35
profile picture and choosing the correct
01:37
account once you have done that type in
01:40
the recipe that you want and today I
01:44
want to make cake mix cookies and if you
01:48
put the term recipe that makes it easier
01:50
for Google to find that so then you can
01:53
look through here I have the send to
01:56
Google home option if you want to check
01:58
out and see if a recipe is something you
01:59
wanted to use you just can open that up
02:02
read through the recipe make sure that
02:04
it has all the information that you want
02:06
okay looks like I have all these
02:08
ingredients so I'm going to click that
02:10
and then I'm going to click
02:13
send to Google home now on the bottom it
02:16
says say start recipe to your Google
02:18
home and you're ready to begin hey
02:20
Google start recipe I have a recipe you
02:25
got from food comm called cake mix
02:27
cookies is that the right one
02:29
yes great this recipe serves Faden takes
02:33
about 20 minutes to make would you like
02:35
to prepare the ingredient or skip to the
02:37
instructions prepare ingredients there
02:41
are five in total should we go through
02:43
them in groups of three or one by one
02:45
one by one okay one by one let me know
02:49
when you're ready for the next
02:50
ingredient the first ingredient is 118
02:53
and a quarter ounce box chocolate cake
02:55
mix just following instructions I like
02:57
to get it one by one or if you have a
02:59
great short-term memory you can grab
03:01
multiple items at once ok google' next
03:06
the second ingredient is 1/2 cup
03:09
vegetable oil ok google' next 2 eggs ok
03:17
google' next 2 cups chocolate chips are
03:22
2 cups butterscotch chips are 2 puffs
03:24
peanut butter chips ok google' next the
03:30
last ingredient is 1/2 cup chopped nuts
03:33
optional that's it let me know when
03:35
you're ready to start okay I got
03:37
everything here
03:38
I got my bowl hey Google let's start
03:43
there's four steps I'll read them one by
03:46
one when you're ready to hear more you
03:48
can say next step first step combine
03:51
cake mix oil and eggs in a bowl and mix
03:53
well okay so if I didn't hear that step
03:56
properly I can just ask to repeat the
03:58
step figure will repeat that first step
04:03
combine cake mix oil and eggs in a bowl
04:05
and mix well
04:06
[Music]
04:24
hey Google next step second step
04:29
stir in chips and nuts if using now if I
04:32
forgot how much ingredients I need I can
04:33
ask Google ok Google how many chocolate
04:37
chips 2 cups chocolate chips are 2 cups
04:40
butterscotch chips or 2 peanut butter
04:43
chips I think that's plenty
04:55
hey Google next step drop icy stoves on
05:00
ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350
05:02
degrees for 8 to 10 minutes would you
05:05
like to set a timer for 8 minutes
05:07
no thank you no problem so now I need to
05:10
get the oven set up get the cookies on a
05:12
sheet and then I can say repeat step and
05:15
set that timer a few other terms that
05:22
you can use while cooking with the
05:23
Google home you can ask to hear your
05:25
step jump to a step see what how many
05:28
remaining steps are capable go to second
05:32
step ok second step stir in chips and
05:36
nuts if using Google how many steps left
05:40
two more steps to go let's say you don't
05:44
have one of the ingredients to ask for
05:45
you can ask for a substitute hey Google
05:48
what can I substitute vegetable oil for
05:52
here's a summary from the website
05:55
doctors health press calm 8 simple
05:57
vegetable oil substitutes olive oil
06:00
coconut oil sesame oil avocado oil
06:02
butter apple sauce mayonnaise and mashed
06:05
fruit and if I want to make sure I made
06:08
enough I can ask Google how many does
06:11
this serve 8 so enough for 8 looks like
06:16
I might need to make another batch and
06:18
while you're doing this it is in cooking
06:20
mode so if you want to exit the cripton
06:23
mode you would need to use the term
06:24
stuff
06:25
cooking and if you want to say play
06:27
music while you're cooking just make
06:29
sure you say next song instead of just
06:32
next or it's going to change the recipe
06:33
instead of changing the song wall a song
06:36
is playing in the background it's time
06:37
to put the cookies in to Google repeat
06:41
that step drop like these spoons on
06:44
ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350
06:46
degrees for 8 to 10 minutes would you
06:49
like to set a timer for 8 minutes
06:51
yes ok setting a timer for 8 minutes now
06:56
we wait how much time he loves tea mine
07:08
is 2 minutes and 51 seconds
07:11
looks like our cookies are ready watch
07:15
out they're hot nose look good
07:27
and that is how you cook with Google
07:29
home if you have any further questions
07:31

07:41

07:44

07:46
two minutes then cool on racks this was
07:49
the last step enjoy thanks to go home
